How to add virtual storage to virtual machines guests

Abstract

This article is a quick Reference Sheet of the command options required to add storage like LUNs, physical CD/DVD or virtual CD/DVD to Integrity VM guests using hpvmmodify command.

Syntax

The basic sintaxis of hpvmmodify is:

hpvmmodify -P <GUEST> -a devicetype:adaptertype:bus,device,target:storage:device

Add virtual LUN (disk)

Using physical devices

# hpvmmodify -P <GUEST> -a <devicetype>:adaptertype:bus,device,target:storage:device

Using disk device

# hpvmmodify -P guest1 -a disk:scsi::/dev/rdsk/c#t#d#

Using AVIOSTOR device

# hpvmmodify -P guest1 -a disk:aviostor::/dev/rdsk/c#t#d#

Using logical volumes

LUNs assigned to the HPVM guest can by used by LVM/VxVM as physical volumes or as whole disks / raw devices by applications.

LVM

# hpvmmodify -P <GUEST> -a disk:scsi::lv:/dev/<vgname>/<rlvol>

VxVM

# hpvmmodify -P <GUEST> -a disk:scsi::lv:/dev/vx/dsk/<vgname>/<rlvol>

Add virtual CD/DVD

Using CD/DVD drive

hpvmmodify -P <GUEST> -a dvd:scsi::disk:/dev/rdsk/c#t#d#

Using a ISO image

hpvmmodify -P <GUEST> -a dvd:scsi::file:/<path_to_image>/<image.iso>
