How to exit from a virtual console session trap on the Management Processor or iLO

Abstract

This article explains how to exit and close an Integrity VM virtual console trap inside a MP or iLO session.

Contents

Background

An Integrity VM virtual console session inside a Guardian Service processor, Management Processor or ILO cannot be exited gracefully returnig to the virtual console command menu. When the [Ctrl]+[B] keystroke sequence is issue, the MP Command Menu, instead of the Virtual Console Command Menu will appear. Using the CO command will return to the virtual console console. This creates an infinitive loop.

To close the trap session, kill the hpvmconsole process on the Integrity VM host.

Example

Using the HPVM host cloud and the HPVM guest tifa, the error can be replicated.

1. Log into Integrity VM host cloud MP. Start a virtual console session to Integrity VM guest tifa.
