Abstract[edit]

This sections covers is based on Chapter 1 of the Ignite-UX Administration Guide.

Installing Ignite-UX[edit]

Ignite-UX is available in as a SD-UX (Software Distributor) depot format from OE and AR media and from the HP Software Depot Website (http://software.hp.com).

All Ignite-UX bundle is safe to install on production enviroments since none of the filesets on the Ignite-UX bundles required a system reboot. In critical service system, standard backup and downtime procedures should be followed.

The following table provide information about the bundles available for download and install at the software depot. Available ignite-ux bundles.png

Check Ignite-UX depot[edit]

After Ignite-UX download check the depot content and version to verify for download errors.

# swlist -s <host_name>:<depot_path>
  • Note: If the current working directory contains the depot, the following sintaxis can be use to automatically add the path: `pwd`:/<depot_path>

Example:

# swlist -s `pwd`/Ignite-UX-11-ALL_C.7.6.100.depot
# Initializing...
# Contacting target "crrp4440.cri.hp.com"...
#
# Target:  crrp4440.cri.hp.com:/var/tmp/Ignite-UX-11-ALL_C.7.6.100.depot
#

#
# Bundle(s):
#

  IGNITE                C.7.6.100      HP-UX Installation Utilities (Ignite-UX)
  Ignite-UX-11-11       C.7.6.100      HP-UX Installation Utilities for Installing 11.11 Systems
  Ignite-UX-11-23       C.7.6.100      HP-UX Installation Utilities for Installing 11.23 Systems
  Ignite-UX-11-31       C.7.6.100      HP-UX Installation Utilities for
  Installing 11.31 Systems

Install Ignite-UX bundles/filesets[edit]

Use the following "swinstall" sintaxis to proceed with the installation of Ignite-UX.

# swinstall -s <host_name>/<depot_path> \* @

  1. \* = Allow to install all the depots
  2. @ = Install in the current server

Example:

# swinstall -s `pwd`/Ignite-UX-11-ALL_C.7.6.100.depot \* @

=======  05/09/08 07:52:06 CDT  BEGIN swinstall SESSION

Verify the installation[edit]

To check the installation use the following "swlist" sintaxtis to check the state of the Ignite-UX filesets.

# swlist -l fileset -a state IGNITE

Example:

swlist -l fileset -a state IGNITE
Initializing...
Contacting target "crrp4440"...

 Target:  crrp4440:/

Configuration decision trees[edit]

  • What is the hardware platform of the Ignite-UX clients? ( PA-RISC | Itanium )
  • What is your server architecture?
  • What is the model of your server?
# model
9000/785/C8000

# uname -a
HP-UX crc8000 B.11.11 U 9000/785 2175810528 unlimited-user license

HP 9000 (PA-RISC)[edit]

PA-Risc boot decision tree

Required information[edit]

  • Do you need to boot from the IGNITE server?
  • Do you have | know the mac address of your client?
  • Have you already configure other clients?
  • How many clients do you have?
  • Are all the clients on the same subnet?
  • Can you reserve a network partition of the subnet for network booting?

Register clients[edit]

  • Add the following line to "/etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab"
<IP Address>:<MAC Address>::reserve

Anonymous clients[edit]

  • Add one one or more lines to "/etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab" for anonymous clients
<IP address>:::

Integrity (Itanium)[edit]

PA-Risc boot decision tree

Required information[edit]

  • Do you need to boot from the IGNITE server?
  • Do you have | know the mac address of your client?
  • Have you already configure other clients?
  • How many clients do you have?
  • Are all the clients on the same subnet?
  • Can you reserve a network p of the portion of the subnet for Ignite-UX network booting?
  • Are using DHCP to assign IP addresses?

Using DHCP for Registered clients[edit]

  • Add an additional entry in the "/etc/bootptab" file.
IADEF:\
ht=ethernet:\
hn:\
bf=/opt/ignite/boot/nbp.efi:\
bs=48:\
sm=255.255.248.0:\
gw=190.1.48.1:\
ds=190.1.48.11:
iuxclient1:tc=IADEF:ip=15.1.52.204:ha=00306E4A3391
  1. IADEF is the default configuration for Itanium-based clients on the subnet
  2. iuxclient1 is the specific entry for that particular client
  3. ht is hardware type (ether) (must precede the ha and hm tag)
  4. hn send nodename (boolean flag, no "=value" needed)
  5. bf bootfile (for tftp download)
  6. bs bootfile size in 512-octet blocks
  7. sm network subnet mask
  8. gw gateway IP address (must have sm tag defined also)
  9. ds domain name server IP address
  10. tc indicates the use of a template for common defaults
  11. ip the client’s IP address
  12. ha MAC address

Using DHCP for Anonymous clients[edit]

  • Make sure that only one DHCP server is configure to respond to the Itanium PXE request.
  • Add following entries to "/etc/dhcptab" file. (Only for HP-UX 11iv2 and 11iv3)
dhcp_device_group:\
re:\
ncid:\
class-id="PXEClient:Arch:00002:.*":\
lease-time=300:\
subnet-mask=<SUBNET_MASK>:\
addr-pool-start-address=<FIRST_IP_IN_RANGE>:\
addr-pool-last-address=<LAST_IP_IN_RANGE>:\
bf=/opt/ignite/boot/nbp.efi

Replace bootptab with instl_bootd - No DHCP[edit]

1. Edit /etc/inetd.conf. Disable bootpd commenting out line:

# bootps dgram udp wait root /usr/lbin/bootpd bootpd

2. Enable the instl_bootd daemon by adding following line:

bootps dgram udp wait root /opt/ignite/lbin/instl_bootd instl_bootd

3. Restart the Internet daemon:

/usr/sbin/inetd -c
